The landscape of internet marketing is drastically changing. Due to the development of smart phones, people are accessing traditional websites less and less. In 2010, more than 50% of internet access was done through mobile devices.

One can only think of what that percentage is now, and how high that number will be five or ten years into the future. People are becoming less and less likely to access your website from a PC or a laptop, so you need to be sure you have a quality site that is accessible from any mobile device. Mobile app development is now a necessity, and here are five reasons why.

Your Regular Website Will Not Translate to Mobile

There is a huge difference between a traditional website and one meant for mobile. Mobile screens are obviously a lot smaller. So your traditional website will probably be impossible or extremely inconvenient to read on a mobile device. This can turn away potential customers interested in your services.

56 Percent of American Adults Own a Smart Phone

This is huge! Well over 50 percent of adults in the U.S. own a smart phone! You can bet that they use their devices to access the internet on a daily basis. You do not want to miss out on this demographic. This number speaks of the demand for every business to have a mobile app or properly optimized website.

Americans Spend 2 Hours and 38 Minutes on Their Smartphones and Tablets

According to a Flurry Analytics report, Americans spend close to 3 hours every day on their smartphones or tablets! Now, not all of that time is on the internet, but this number is still staggering. Every minute they spend on their mobile device is a minute they could be spending on your mobile app or mobile site!

Purchases on Mobile Devices Increasing Dramatically

In 2012, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) released a study that concluded that more than a third of mobile product owners are using their devices for online purchases. If we go by the numbers I mentioned earlier, that includes one third of the 56% of American adults that own a smart phone! According to the study, the mobile consumers planned to spend $575 shopping from their mobile device in the next 12 months. If you are still ignoring this demographic, you are throwing money away!

U.S. Mobile Ad Spending Expected to Jump to Over 7 Billion In 2013

According to eMarketer, this number is expected to reach 21 billion by 2016. It’s not too late to jump on this bandwagon. Don’t fall behind your competitors. Mobile advertising is becoming more important and relevant with each passing day.
